ZTE and Uganda Telecom Operators Launch 5G Trial

Xinhua News Agency, Kampala, January 18 (Reporter Zhang Gaiping) China ’s ZTE Corporation and Ugandan telecommunications operator MTN recently held a 5G trial launch ceremony in Kampala, Uganda ’s capital, showing live speed measurement and bionic robots based on 5G networks. Uganda’s Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission Godfrey Mutabazi, MTN CEO Wim Van Helped, and ZTE Southern Africa Vice President Yi Yahua attended the ceremony.

Rugunda said at the ceremony that the Ugandan government fully supports the development of new technologies to solve the difficulties and challenges in people’s lives. He is optimistic that 5G technology will promote Uganda’s economic development.

Mutabazi said Uganda’s communications industry regulators are working to build the infrastructure to support the development of 5G in Uganda. He pointed out that this will help Uganda become the first country in East Africa with 5G technology, second only to South Africa and Nigeria in Africa.

“In the next two to three years, we will carry out a large-scale commercial promotion of 5G in Uganda, to provide people with faster and more convenient services such as telemedicine, smart education, and digital finance. ”

Yi Yahua said that ZTE will fully support Uganda’s MTN to provide better and faster communication services for Uganda by using modern mobile communication technology and strive to promote the application of 5G technology in vertical industries.
