MediaTek launched its flagship gaming SoC Helio G90 in mid-2019, which was also installed on the popular smartphone Redmi Note 8 Pro. MediaTek has now introduced the Helio G80 SoC for a reasonable price for the games.
This SoC is built on a 12nm node. Its Octa Core CPU has two Cortex-A75 cores, clock speed is 2.0 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores with clock speed of 1.8 GHz.
MediaTek’s Helio G70, which launched last month, has a similar chip set, but its 6-core clock speed is 1.7 GHz instead of 1.8 GHz.
Both chips have a Mali-G52 GPU but its clock speed is slightly different. The G80 has a 950 MHz GPU while the G70 has 820 MHz.
The Helio G80 also has some high tech features of Media Tech such as HyperEngine Game technology and built-in VoW or voice on wakeup. VoW reduces power consumption for voice assistants while Hyper Engine makes gaming run better.
Both chips will be added to smartphones launched in India later this month.
