China Mobile has now opened more than 50,000 5G base stations and officially provided 5G commercial services in more than 50 cities. This means that China Mobile’s previous 5G base station construction plan for 2019 has been successfully completed.
A few days ago, the National Industrial and Information Work Conference held by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology revealed that in 2019, a total of 126,000 5G base stations were opened nationwide. On June 6 this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued 5G commercial licenses to the three major operators and China Radio and Television, marking the official opening of 5G network construction.
At this year’s interim results briefing, Yang Jie, chairman of China Mobile, stated that China Mobile’s capital expenditure this year will not exceed 166 billion, of which 5G investment is expected to be 24 billion. Yang Jie said that 2020 to 2022 is the peak period of 5G investment, but China Mobile will control the total investment. For 5G to be realistic and actively promote, 5G technology and industry maturity still needs time, and we must grasp the rhythm.
In the face of high construction costs, in order to achieve rapid network deployment, China Mobile said it would make full use of the existing 4G sites. Recently, Yang Jie pointed out in the award speech that China Mobile was selected as the “Top Ten Sample Lists of 2019” that up to now, China Mobile has built more than 4 million communication base stations, equivalent to 30% of the total number of global base stations. China Mobile Network has covered more than 99% of the Chinese population.
China Mobile stated that in 2020, China Mobile will provide 5G commercial services in all cities above the prefecture level.
